Using LED Lighting to Make a Great Impression

RSS

When it comes to business, leaving a good first impression is a crucial part in establishing a brand’s image and overall success. So, how do you make a great first impression? Many building owners will usually focus on creating an inviting environment inside their building. However, most will often neglect their parking lot and exterior spaces. Fixtures that are dim, flickering, or burnt out can create an environment that comes across as unsafe and inhospitable.

LED lighting helps to alleviate or altogether remove these issues through a long list of benefits, including minimal maintenance, lower energy costs, and higher light quality!

Minimal Maintenance:

Many parking lot fixtures use High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulbs in their fixtures, which include Metal Halide (MH) and High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) bulbs. HID bulbs typically have an average life of 15,000 hours, compared to the average lifespan of 50,000 hours of LED Lighting, with some LED fixtures having a lifespan of 100,000 hours! This means that every LED fixture replacement would be roughly equal to 3-6 HID fixture replacements, not including pricey ballast replacements! Over time, this means additional savings in product and labor costs, and other often overlooked fees, such as the cost of the lifts needed to access these fixtures.

Lower Energy Costs:

Parking lot fixtures generally consume a substantial amount of energy, especially if old and outdated technology is being utilized, leading to higher overall energy costs. HID bulbs will typically consume between 250-1000W per bulb, while LED equivalents use a fraction of this energy – between about 100-300W per bulb or fixture! While upfront costs of converting to LED are typically a bit higher than traditional lighting methods, these costs continue to decrease, and buyers are expected to see returns on their investment within two years of converting to LED products.

Higher Light Quality:

The Color Rendering Index, or CRI, of a fixture is also important to keep in mind when making the decision to convert to LED fixtures, as a higher CRI provides more accurate color and clarity compared to natural light. Most HID bulbs emit an amber or orange glow, which tends to have a lower CRI, while LED lights can provide a much higher CRI and a more accurate color rendering overall!
